MacEncrypt
by
J. Clarke Stevens
This is version 2.0 of the popular MacEncrypt program. It includes an
enhanced set of features while maintaining the simplicity of the
original version. Now multiple files can be saved in a single encrypted
archive and files can be "shredded" for extra security.
MacEncrypt is a program that uses the Data Encryption Standard (DES)
to encrypt macintosh files with a user supplied password. This protects
your data from being read by anyone who doesn't know the password.
MacEncrypt is easy to use. You can select files for encryption using
standard file dialog boxes or using the "drag and drop" technique from
the finder. MacEncrypt is just 30 kBytes long and takes only 128 kBytes
of RAM. It is System 7.0 and 32-bit compatible.
There is now a single MacEncrypt executable program that works on
all platforms (at least all I've tested). MacEncrypt will automatically
sense the environment and take advantage of available features.
To install MacEncrypt, simply drag the application icon to a folder you
wish to use it from. It is very convenient to install it on the desktop
near the trash can so you can just drag files to it for encryption.
MacEncrypt will run suitably from a floppy diskette. Two versions of
the documentation for MacEncrypt have been included. One is a
formatted Microsoft Word document. The other is a simple text file.
MacEncrypt is shareware. Feel free to distribute it wherever you like.
This includes uploading it to bulletin boards and archive sites. Just
be sure to include the entire package with this document unchanged.
If you use MacEncrypt for more than a month (30 days) you are
obligated to send $10.00 (US) to:
